There were already signs of the upcoming interior design trends at the major trade fairs such as the imm cologne and the Ambiente in Frankfurt. Much is new, but there are also trends that we have already seen in the past and are celebrating a comeback in 2019.
Wood surfaces are back
For a long time, smooth, reduced and above all white surfaces were the choice in many areas in interior design. The new year also sees the return of untreated wood as the material of choice. This means that there will be more naturalness, more cosiness and more warmth in Germany’s homes.
People who have a regular yearning for far-off places will be pleased. In 2019 we’re bringing the exotic ambience of distant countries into our homes. Ethnic design is the watchword. Whether the Andes of South America, the African savannah or the islands of the Far East, as well as bringing warmth into our homes, ethnic style accessories and textiles also increase individuality.
Combination of warm and cold colours
With regard to colours, designers are opting for contrasts in 2019. Cold colours such as blues and greens are cleverly teamed with warm choices. A wide range of optical effects can be achieved by this means. Warm colours such as earth hues and reds make a room more comfortable, while cooler shades will make it look bigger. Incidentally, natural wood floors are the perfect match for these.
The cheerful, glowing colour Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral comes to us in 2019 as the “Colour of the Year”. This revitalising coral red is said to introduce motivation and élan, while at the same time gently providing warmth and energy. We’re looking forward to seeing how this colour is going to be used.
One trend that is going to continue in 2019 is for floor coverings in smooth materials (no joints). These floors create a feeling of continuity throughout the home as one room transitions seamlessly with the next. Decorative cement floors or design screed, once laid by a specialist, are extremely easy to look after and highly robust.
Concrete effect for the wall
As well as warm wood elements, 2019 also sees a cool loft atmosphere in the home. Concrete-effect wall panels are a trendy design option that combines beautifully with white and with more intensive hues. If you prefer not to fit panels to the walls, you can opt for concrete effect smoothing compound instead.
Whatever your particular interior design choices, 2019 is going to be the year of chic combinations and contrasts. And of course, little colour accents can be added wherever you like – for instance with house plants, which are entirely in keeping with the trend for naturalness.
