The ambitious Solo Houses project for twelve experimental holidays homes designed by unconventional contemporary architects and developed in close relationship with nature, is growing in the no-man's-land of the Spanish border region between Catalonia and Aragon. The result is spectacular architecture amidst the raw rock, gnarled olive trees and wild land: modern statements of visionary design. The perfect place, then, to display Bette baths made of glazed titanium steel.

Someone who follows his passion:

Behind the idea of the "Solo Houses" is Christian Bourdais, with his love of architecture. For this purpose, the French project developer commissioned modern contemporary architects to design experimental holiday homes in the Catalan mountain range Matarraña. The only restriction on the project is the budget; absolute artistic freedom applies in all other respects. The result? Visionary buildings that relate to the landscape and open up an inspiring dialogue.

Monolith in the midst of unspoilt nature

"Casa Pezo" was completed in the village of Cretas in the Spanish province of Teruel in summer 2013 as the first of the twelve planned homes in the "Solo Houses" project. The concrete cube was designed and built by the Chilean studio Pezo Von Ellrichshausen Architects, who also designed the Chilean pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2008. "Casa Pezo" gazes serenely over the landscape from its high plateau in the Ports de Torrosa-Beseit nature park.

Lighthouse in the forest: Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen designed the holiday home as a compact sculpture that floats over the treetops as a single-storey cube on a pedestal. Access to the villa is along the hill with the help of a cement staircase that winds up and makes its way through the lush vegetation. As an expression of contemporary Chilean architecture, the design of the home reverses the dimensions of interior and exterior: instead of walls, wide transparent sliding windows and white curtains allow the boundaries to be shifted; the landscape becomes part of the design. A perfect backdrop for the BetteLux Oval Silhouette in Blue Satin. For bright moments of weightlessness in the midst of a perfect summer.

Minimalism with perfect craftsmanship. The effect colour Blue Satin, specially developed by Bette, corresponds to the colour of the sky, permanently capturing the lightness of a holiday moment.

"We see the product and architecture as a single unit, because only then will a photo become a visual experience, and a whole image world be created."

Wolfram Korneman, designer at Stan Hema, on the shoot for Bette

The essence of the oval bath shape: naturally flowing and at the same time clear and concise - this is the effect of BetteLux Oval Silhouette. With its organic basic shape and extremely delicate outer edges, it blends elegantly and naturally with this utopian space.

A circular bath for a circular house.

Space that rises in the landscape: this was the idea of the Belgian architects Kersten Geers and David Van Severen for Solo House II in the Catalan Matarraña mountain range. The building stands on a natural plateau that opens up the view to the sea. In order to consistently integrate the surroundings in the design, OFFICE KGDVS created a circular floor plan that provides a 360-degree view of the panorama. The result is a democratic house where there is no front or back. All the sides are the same, and disappear in the green of the landscape.

When architecture produced experience: even with David Van Severen and Kersten Geers, the circle works as a value in itself, its construction standing for the freedom of the moment. The architects themselves describe the concrete foundation as a kind of "circular catwalk".

A simple but bold idea: a holiday home that offers a stage for life. Simply perfect! The centre of the 550-square-metre house is a protected courtyard with a swimming pool.

Pure form: the circular BettePond is spectacular in form and size. Round. Curvaceous. Reduced. No end, no beginning - simply perfect. This is craftsmanship at its very best. The exceptional diameter of 1500 mm is made possible by the high stability of glazed titanium steel. For special occasions. Every day.

To be continued

Sou Fujimoto, Didier Faustino, Anne Holtrop, Bijoy Jain vom Studio Mumbai, MOS, Smilan Radic, Kuehn Malvezzi, Tatiana Bilbao, Barozzi Veiga and Christ & Gantenbein are the architects who have the privilege of creating other experimental holiday homes in the region between Barcelona, Valencia and Saragossa. For the selection of the twelve architects for his solo project, Christian Bourdais coined the term "New Guard".
